Davies, Rev. Charles Maurice, D.D. London: Tinsley Brothers, 1875. First Edition. vi, [2], 406, [2] ad pp. Large 8vo. Brown cloth stamped in black, with gilt lettering to spine. Some wear and staining to covers, slight tears at spine, corners bumped, some mild toning. Overall very good.

Part memoir, part guide book, Mystic London is a wonderful slice of occult life in the city at the end of the 19th century. Written by a clergyman who turned to spiritualism in 1865, following the death of his son, the focus is primarily on seances, mediums, and mesmerism. Both Davies and his wife were active in the scene, and the insider's perspective makes for an enjoyable, accessible read. From the library of Eugene Wolfe (1921-2014), New Orleans hypnotist and occultist. (378)
