An Examen of Witches (Discours des Sorciers)

An Examen of Witches (Discours des Sorciers)

Boguet, Henry. Drawn from various trials of many of this sect in the district of Saint Oyan de Joux commonly known as Saint Claude in the county of Burgundy, including the procedure necessary to judge in trials for witchcraft. Suffolk: John Rodker, 1929. Translated by E. Allen Ashwin. Edited by the Rev. Montague Summers. liii, 328 pp. Publisher's green vellum spine with blue boards, spine stamped in gilt. Pages printed in black and red. Slight fading to spine, head and tail slightly bumped, top of front hinge split, fading and rubbing to bottom of front cover, some minor pencil notations, light toning. Overall very good. One of 1275 copies.

Hailed by Summers as second only to the Malleus Maleficarum in terms of demonological authority and revelation. He should know: he provided the first English translation of the Maleficarum, as well as an excellent introduction to this volume. A witch hunter's delight. (375)
