From the guy who approved that super controversial translation of the bible, it's a philosophical dissertation on necromancy, divination, and black magic. Also, werewolves, vampires, and, of course, WITCHES.

Dæmonologie, which first appeared in 1597, was an intensely political work outlining theological reasons for the persecution of witches, basically lighting the way for the future subjugation and oppression of women with the flaming corpses of their foremothers. Yes, it's one of the sources Shakespeare used to write Macbeth, but it's also one of the the reasons Salem happened.

Not surprised Fawkes had it in for him.

An important text in the history of witchcraft and systemic oppression politics, in a fine edition from Ouroboros Press
