Early esoteric fantasy/science fiction (electricity! solar power! atoms!) by a now largely forgotten lesbian author. "A Romance of Two Worlds" was Corelli's first novel and the start of a wildly successful literary career. She was one of the first “best-selling” authors and in her lifetime sold more books than contemporaries Arthur Conan Doyle and H.G. Wells. Queen Victoria was famously a fan and asked for a presentation copy of this very novel.
Corelli was never publicly out as a lesbian, but was noted for her erotic descriptions of female beauty and lived with partner Bertha Vyver (to whom many of her works are lovingly dedicated) for more than 40 years, until Corelli's death in 1924. The two women are buried together in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
